Getting to Know Carolyn

We asked Carolyn a few questions about her company and her future with Two Roads. Check out what she said: -Why did you start Elder Advocates? Having worked in health care for 25+ years in a variety of settings including hospitals, home care, and long term care, I observed too many families forced to make quick decisions on behalf of people they love during times of crisis with too little information. I have witnessed people admitting their loved one into a nursing home without having ever visited the facility. I have witnessed a total misunderstanding of each level of care, resulting in admissions to facilities of the wrong type, only having to move them again. For elders, especially those with even a hint of dementia, each transition and move is traumatic and can result in negative health consequences. So, in 2010, I decided to start Elder Advocates with the goal to become the guide and concierge for these families. -Who are the people you hope to serve? We are here to serve any family who is trying to manage the care and life of an elder (or handicapped individual). To become involved with families prior to the confrontation of a health or social crisis is optimal. When families begin having discussions about future options, choices are broader. When a family finds themselves in crisis and faced with a quick timeline to make decisions, choices are more narrow. Elder Advocates provides services not covered by insurance. Our clients/families privately pay for the services we provide. Therefore, unfortunately, we are unable to assist every family. Business professionals, CEO’s, business owners, and others whose lives are busy balancing multiple demands and are suddenly faced with managing a parent, grandparent, or other elder, are the prime clientele for Elder Advocates. -What are you looking forward to most working with Two Roads? I am excited about the business and financial expertise that the staff of Two Roads brings to our company. We look forward to a partnership that embraces honesty, integrity, and a strong desire to serve our clients while growing our business. With such guidance, Elder Advocates hopes to become a regional then national provider of advocacy services. Be on the look out for more posts about Carolyn and Elder Advocates!
