There is a difference between acting like you are working hard and actually providing value to your company. Anyone can look busy while the boss-man walks by, right? Are you really serving your company by simply looking busy? We've all been there... it's 3pm on a Thursday and you've caught yourself staring blankly at your computer screen for the last 10 minutes. You might say to yourself, "If I could just take a 20 minute nap, or if I could just go for a 20 minute walk, then I would be so much more productive for the rest of the day!" What is holding you back?! Fear of looking lazy?
If you could "invest" 20 minutes and "gain" 3 good hours in the afternoon would you do it? Wouldn't you bring more value to your company if you worked 7:40 hours at your highest capacity vs. a full 8:00 hours but 3 of 8 hours were in "zombie mode"? This should be a no brainer. My challenge to you is to take one day next week and do that 20 minute "thing" during your work day that will help re-energize you for the rest of the day. If you get in trouble, print this blog post and give it to your boss and tell them I said it was ok.
